Apple Watch Series 8

The Japanese corporate concept of kaizen has been on my mind as I consider the Apple Watch Series 8. Toyota popularized the idea, which stands for constant improvement. A little improvement over the Series 4, the Series 7 was a modest update to the Series 6, which was an incremental update to the Series 5. Though individually insignificant, these changes piled up over time to make the difference between the Apple Watch and all other smartwatches greater.

The main safety feature is an algorithm that recognizes collisions involving cars and will get in touch with emergency services on your behalf if you are unconscious or confined and unable to ignore the first warning message. I’m delighted to inform that I was unable to test this function since I was involved in a really serious crash at the beginning of 2021, and it’s not something I would like to experience again. However beautiful those may be, I think we can all agree that it’s more helpful than a moonphase complication.

By 2023, the Apple Watch is a well-known brand and among the company’s most identifiable items. Because of this, you know what to anticipate when you take a look at the Apple Watch Series 8. It will undoubtedly be comfortable to wear, packed with health-related functions, and equipped with the greatest software available on a wristwatch.

  • Neat use of temperature sensors
  • Crash Detection!
  • Low-power mode is helpful

The All-New Body Temperature Sensor Prioritizes Wellness And Privacy

One of the most persistent and annoying rumors surrounding every new Apple Watch feature is the inclusion of a temperature sensor. And now at last, we have it with Series 8.

The watch is really equipped with two temperature sensors: one under the rear crystal on the caseback and one beneath the dial that faces forward. The current sensors have a limited field of view. The sensors are now designed to track women’s health, so they won’t alert you if you have a fever. When used with the heart-rate monitoring feature of the Apple Watch, they can approximate a woman’s menstrual cycle. When a wearer is asleep, the sensors monitor changes in wrist temperature every night and alert the wearer to any unusually high or low temperatures.

Although my view is rather narrow, I believe that this greatly expands the capabilities of Apple Watch for health and wellness, and I especially like Apple’s ongoing focus on privacy. According to what I understand, the Apple Watch Series 8 is the only wearable that offers end-to-end encryption through the Apple Health app and cycle tracking. This implies that Apple cannot read or distribute any of the user’s personally gathered health data; only the end user has access to it.

Apple Watch Series 8: Specs and features

The Apple Watch Series 8 is equipped with the same Apple Watch Series 7 display, which is 40% smaller than that of the Apple Watch Series 6 and has 20% more screen surface and thinner borders (1.7mm).

There are two sizes for this new Apple Watch: 41mm and 45mm. The Always-On Retina display is brighter inside than the last Watch when the wrist is down, making it simpler to view the watch’s face without raising the wrist or waking it up.

In addition, the Watch has been certified IP6X dust-resistant and has a WR50 water resistance certification, which makes it an excellent option for swimming and helping users unwind on the beach or in the desert.

Performance

The 2020 Apple Watch Series 6 and the Apple Watch Series 8 have the same processor. It still has the same CPU power even with the new moniker, S8. That is not the first time Apple has taken such action. The S5 processor in the Apple Watch Series 5 included a built-in compass capability in addition to the same performance as the S4 SoC.

32GB of storage and a 64-bit dual-core CPU are characteristics of the S8 SiP. It is 20% quicker than the CPU in the first Apple Watch SE and is known as the S6 chip.

apple watch series 8 price

The Apple Watch Series 8 is currently on sale. The 41mm aluminum casing with GPS only begins at $308. The 45mm aluminum housing with GPS is more expensive at $349. Upgrades to LTE cellular service cost an additional $100, making $429 and $529, respectively.

The Apple Watch Series 8 is also available with a more expensive stainless steel casing. Here, the 45mm variant costs $799, while the 41mm GPS/LTE model costs $749.

Body temperature sensor

The new body temperature sensor in the Apple Watch Series 8 is one of its most significant features; according to Apple, it allows for “further insights into women’s health.” Bias from both the body and the external environment is lessened by the two-sensor architecture. Users will be able to obtain estimates of retrospective ovlution using the additional capabilities.

For people who menstruate, temperature sensing also allows for more accurate period forecasts. Users using Cycle Tracking on watchOS 9 will now be notified if there appears to be a potential variation in their cycle history logged.

Apple Watch Series 8: battery and charging

The Series 8 Apple Watch maintains the same reputation as the dependable one-day wristwatch that it has always had. The Apple Watch Ultra offers next-level endurance, but this one has ample of power for all-day use without worrying about running out of battery life.

My battery life on the Apple Watch Series 8 has consistently concluded each day between 40% and 30% of its initial capacity. I once turned on the Series 8 at around 6:00 am and discovered that I had 48% of the battery left at 9:15 pm. That came after using Apple Fitness+ to track a 20-minute core workout, getting notifications all day long, setting a few timers for when I was preparing dinner, and turning on the always-on screen.

I unplugged the Series 8 at 9:00 a.m. on a particularly busy day, and I spent the rest of the day staring at alerts and the always-on screen. In addition, I spent forty minutes using the Compass app’s Backtrack feature while tracking a 1.8-mile stroll outside. When I woke up at 8:00 a.m., I had 23% charge left after recording my (much too brief) sleep, down from 33% at 2:03 a.m.

The Apple Watch Series 8 is compatible with rapid charging, just like it was last year. It quickly charges from 0% to over 80% in 45 minutes, and it takes around an hour to reach 100%. That’s quick enough to charge the Series 8 when you wake up after a sleep tracking night, get it ready for the day, and remove the charger when the battery is fully charged and ready to use.

Apple Watch Series 8: car crash detection

I hope to never try another function of the Apple Watch Series 8 that I haven’t been able to. The Apple Watch Series 8 has auto crash detection, just like the iPhone 14. In the event of a serious collision, the Series 8 will inquire as to your well-being before prompting you to dial 911. Within ten seconds, if you don’t answer that prompt, the call is made for you automatically.

We may safely presume that the functionality is just as excellent on the Series 8 iPhone because it seems to function rather well on this year’s models. It gives me comfort to know that, even if I (and everyone else with a Series 8) is crossing my fingers that we never need to employ auto crash detection, it is reassuring to know that it’s there — just in case.

Smooth and seamless. The edge of design.

The large, bright Always-On display is a characteristic of the Apple Watch Series 8. The screen is pushed to the edge by narrow boundaries, creating a seamless connection with the case’s curve.

Apple Watch Series 8 vs. SE and Ultra: Should you upgrade?

Better water resistance, a longer battery life, and a more robust build characterize the Apple Watch Ultra. Is this the wiser decision? For those who don’t require as much, the new Apple Watch SE, which is devoid of temperature sensors, blood oxygen, an always-on display, and an ECG, would be a good option (albeit the absence of an always-on display isn’t ideal). And can monitoring body temperature and ovulation together prove beneficial in the long run?

If you already own a Series 7, or even a Series 6, there’s not much need to upgrade to the Series 8. However, the Apple Watch Series 8 is the most feature-rich health watch available and does not require an update to the Ultra

The good news about Apple’s updated watch range is that although the features and design grow up, the CPUs should all be roughly the same speed. If the Series 7 from last year is discounted, that’s a great substitute, but the main advantages of the 8 over the SE at the moment are its larger screen, additional ECG, blood oxygen, and temperature sensors, as well as its always-on display.

We’ll provide a more detailed response to this when you return here in the next month or two. With better software and a potential health sensor, the Apple Watch Series 8 is still a great piece of wearable technology for the time being. First, though, take a look at your wrist. You could already have a functional Apple Watch.
