OnePlus 6 review

The OnePlus 6 exudes maturity and doesn’t appear or feel out of place among the elite competitors from companies like Apple, Samsung, and Sony. The screen is vivid and colorful, the design is eye-catching, the performance is strong, and the camera is reliable.

The OnePlus 6 is an Android smartphone released in 2018. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core CPU, Adreno 630 GPU, and 6/8GB of RAM. It comes in three models: 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM for $529, or 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM for $579.

Editors’ note: We tested the 128GB version of the OnePlus 6.

OnePlus 6 has a sturdy glass back

The OnePlus 6, with its mirrored-finish glass back and bow-tie notch, exudes the suave air of a tailored tuxedo, if the OnePlus 5T had an elegant industrial raw denim vibe.

OnePlus switched to Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is also used for the display, in place of the aluminum rear of its earlier phones. More expensive phones, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S9, use the same chemically reinforced cover glass. I’m glad the phone has the modest palm-curve of previous generations despite the material modifications.

There are two shades of black available for the OnePlus 6: matte midnight black and glossy mirror black. Every one of them has a very faint accent. OnePlus claims that its mirror black model, for instance, has a drop shadow of an S under the OnePlus logo.

Yep, that’s a notch on your OnePlus 6

The 6.28-inch OLED display of the OnePlus 6 sports a notch, for better or worse. This leaves a small gap surrounding the LED notification light, earpiece, sensors, and front-facing camera. The notch doesn’t bother me. That’s just the way things are. Furthermore, it doesn’t appear like this current design fad will fade anytime soon.

If you’re not a fan, you may change the appearance by adding black bars to the sides using the options. Similar software is also in other amazing devices with notched screens, including as the LG G7, Huawei P20, and P20 Pro.

Although the display has a 19:9 aspect ratio, its resolution of 2,280×1,080 pixels is less than that of other flagships, including as the Galaxy S9 Plus. During regular use, the screen appeared bright, detailed, and crisp. It was enjoyable to browse Instagram and watch videos. Vibrant colors appear without being overly saturated.

Portrait mode and dual-rear cameras

A 16-megapixel primary camera and a 20-megapixel secondary camera are located on the back of the OnePlus 6. The photographs look great overall. They are well-defined, with pleasing levels of saturation and contrast.

The OnePlus 6 employs AI to modify the sharpness of images, just like the majority of phone cameras these days. As OnePlus puts it, “smart capture” functions admirably in real life. I took more over 100 pictures, and only a small number of them were poor-quality photos. Although smart capture optimization operates completely in the background, I wish there was a method to occasionally turn it off, like with the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro.

4K video and slow motion

The OnePlus 6’s video boasts a striking contrast and a cinematic appearance. Electronic image stabilization (EIS) is a feature of the OnePlus 6 that helps to reduce hand and gait tremors.

Similar to the Galaxy S9 Plus and iPhone X, the OnePlus 6 features 1080p slow motion at 240 frames per second. This is very significant! Videos appear bright and dramatic.

OnePlus 6 packs a Snapdragon 845 processor

This phone is so speedy, it astounds me. Due in major part to the Snapdragon 845 CPU within, this phone is among the fastest that we have tested.

Need for Speed: No Limits, Riptide GP2, Marvel Spider-Man Unlimited, and PUBG Mobile were among the games the phone played without stuttering or requiring a resolution change. Daily chores like messaging, snapping pictures, and browsing through Instagram or Twitter were lively.

In relation to video games, there’s also a handy gaming mode that, when engaged, restricts the amount of internet access that other apps can utilize and suppresses alerts.
