Finally, the AI feature is coming to OnePlus phones

Adding generative AI features to various mobile devices has already become a must. Recently, tech giants like Google, Samsung have stepped up to add AI features to their respective flagship phones.

Chinese mobile maker OnePlus ‘may have been on a different path for a long time’, reports tech site Android Police. On the day of unveiling of ‘Oneplus 12’, this phone did not have any AI feature.

However, this is changing now. According to the report, the company has added several generative AI features in the latest update of the operating system ‘ColorOS’ for ‘OnePlus 11’ and ‘OnePlus 12’ in China.

Android Police Contributor Mishal Rahman has discovered that OnePlus China initially launched the ‘ColorOS’ update only for the ‘OnePlus 11’, but later this update was launched for the ‘OnePlus 12’ phones in the region as well. In an English version of the OnePlus 11 changelog, the company has revealed details of the AI features coming with the update.

There are mentions of three generative AI features in total, including an ‘AI Summarizer’. This feature will automatically create a summary of various phone calls.

To do this, the AI will “collect location, time, date, ‘action items’ and other important information from the user’s phone calls,” OnePlus said.

Next AI features an image editing tool, ‘AIGC Remover’. This will allow the user to remove various unwanted people and objects from the image. The feature is somewhat similar to the ‘Pixel 8’ and ‘Galaxy S24’ series. However, the company mentioned only image editing in the changelog, there was no mention of video editing.

The latest AI feature is ‘Article Summaries’. According to the report, the ‘core information’ of the article can be extracted with just one tap through this feature.

While the features may not be as advanced as those of Google or Samsung, OnePlus will serve as a gateway to the world of AI for users, writes Android Police.

In addition to these three features, users can now use the fingerprint scanner without waking up the phone’s screen, according to the company’s changelog. Also, a ‘Device Motion and Orientation’ permission has already been added to the Settings app. This will prevent external apps from using the phone’s ‘Action/Gesture’ and ‘Display Orientation’ sensors.

It is not certain whether these AI features are coming to the global version of OnePlus phones running on the ‘OxygenOS’ operating system. However, since there is not much difference between the two operating systems, there is no reason for the AI feature not to come in the global version, Android Police wrote in the report.
